Process

 

This WebQuest brings students through the process of researching individually, choosing important data, reporting to group members, collaborating and synthesizing to from an audio visual presentation and then evaluating each other's work.

 

Teacher Abilities 

In order to successfully complete this WebQuest a teacher must

  • Have a working knowledge of video cameras
  • Be familiar with power point and internet usage
  • Be willing to learn how to use Flowgram
  • Be willing to act as a classroom facilitator

 

Materials

  • Access to one computer per student
  • A set of headphones for each student
  • A microphone for each group
  • A digital camera
  • Art supplies such as paper, scissors, markers, popsicle sticks 

 

Schedule

-5   You should plan on learning to use your school's video camera and investigating how to set-up a Flowgram about a week before beginning the WebQuest with your students.  The technical aspects to this WebQuest make it a little challenging.
1 Individually carry out a waves review  Gives students and overview of the WebQuest including a description of their overarching task and a note that they should be working on a waves review today and assigns them to groups

Preliminary group planning and then individual, role-specific research

Checks in with students, encouraging them to take notes and answering questions
3 Continue from day 2 Discusses the grading rubric in more detail at the beginning of class; Instructs student to make a list of what important information their character should be contributing to the movie complete with references

Group Meeting: planning for the movie

Students should have a script by the end of class if they are writing a movie and an outline by the end of the class if they are making a Flowgram

Students should have listed, identified sources/props that will be used

Discusses the optional recording methods at the beginning of class and gives an overview of how to use a video camera and how to use Flowgram.

Checks in with all groups by the end of class and offers suggestions on their scripts.  Scripts will be carefully read after class and more formal comments will be given.

5 Filming of movie/ putting together & recording of Flowgrams Technical help/ problem solving
6 Presentations: each film is watched and then discussed by the class; students can ask questions or offer helpful suggestions; each student must fill out a Teamwork Survey about their group members

Takes notes on students' work and offers feedback

Posts the finished videos in a closed YouTube group after class
